Top LinkedIn Groups for Job Seekers and Why You Should Join Them

When you Google the term “job search” you are likely to find an over abundance of cookie-cutter brick and mortar job search websites; they are everywhere.
Similar to your Google search, when you go on LinkedIn.com (the new Web 2.0 hub for the “who you know” in the white collar space) and run a group search for “jobs” you will find over 9,000 professional groups catering to career professionals in virtually every industry across the globe.
What you probably won’t find on LinkedIn are the likes of Monster.com, CareerBuilder, Hot Jobs and others in the traditional job board space which is what makes LinkedIn vastly appealing; it’s true Web 2.0 – it’s all about user to user networking and relationship building.
Below we have listed what we feel – or rather what we know – are the top 10 groups for Job Seekers on LinkedIn.
Joining as many groups as possible on LinkedIn is vital to any Job Seekers success point blank.
Unlike a job board – where you can comfortably apply to hundreds of jobs and wait for the phone to ring – you will not land a job by sitting idle on LinkedIn; that is a promise.
To date there are over 30 million registered users in the U.S. on the service. This is mainly because LinkedIn has been exclusively built on relationship building and viral networking. We call it a “virtual rolodex”.
The appeal lies in the fact that you have access, and control, to “connect” with not only Recruiters but decision makers at almost any company across the United States.
Keep in mind however; using LinkedIn is 110% different than using a job board or walking into a job fair. LinkedIn serves a completely different purpose; it is your job as a job seeker (no pun intended – but looking for a job is a job!) to put yourself in front of who’s hiring and not expect it to be the other way around.
Recruiters are too busy to spend countless hours surfing groups, chats and boards to find you.
Again, it is your job to go find them — here’s how and why!
1) LinkedIn groups contain both discussion and job lead sections; joining up to 50 allowed groups gives you immediate access to directly contact any Member thereof
2) There are only two ways for you to get in front of a decision maker; by going directly to the source or via a third-party – this is where “who you know” comes into play
If you are not taking advantage of the resources that are out there; shame on you not shame on the recruiter who is too busy to sift through the pile of resumes on their desk to call you.
Currently there are over 2.2 million job openings listed on the JobsDirectUSA job search website JobsDirectNow.com (Click here to search local employment in the U.S.)
1. Linked:HR (#1 Human Resources Group)
2. Job Openings, Job Leads and Job Connections!
