Miami-Dade Unemployment Rate At 12.3 Percent, Virgin Mobile Brings ‘Pink Slip Tour’ To Miami To Help Residents Network For Jobs

MIAMI, FL – A national report recently named Miami amongst the worst cities in America to find a job. Despite more than 32,000 new U.S. Census jobs which helped Florida’s unemployment rate improve for the second consecutive month — Miami’s unemployment rate skyrocketed from 11.4 percent to an alarming 12.3 percent in May.

To help local residents get connected with jobs, Virgin Mobile is teaming up with Florida-based JobDirectUSA  to host a ‘Pink Slip Party’ that allows job seekers to mix and mingle with recruiters of companies looking to interview, and hire, in a more informal setting than your traditional board room – think speed dating for the unemployed.

According to JobsDirectUSA, the job networking party is the most fun and laid back job interview most who attend will ever experience. To date, Pink Slip Parties as well as various forms of social networking have helped many workers across the U.S. land employment during troubled times.

In addition, representatives from the Greater Miami chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management will be on hand to network with prospective job candidates. In total, over two-dozen HR Recruiters and company representatives are expected to attend the free event.

The Pink Slip Party will take place on Tuesday, June 29, from 4 – 8 PM at Blue Martini at Mary Brickell Village. Job Seekers are encouraged to dress to impress, bring copies of their resume and be ready to network. There will also be a pink carpet display on site at which guests will have an opportunity to film their 30 second commercials.

All hiring companies in the Greater South Florida area are encouraged to attend. The event is open to the general public. Currently there are approximately 19,076 job openings in Miami-Dade county (source: www.jobsdirectusa.com).
