Virgin Mobile Brings “Pink Slip” Jobs Tour to Detroit to Help Residents Find Employment and Network

DETROIT, MI – Michigan’s unemployment rate has continued to drop while total employment is largely unchanged. In June, unemployment declined by 21,000 people but total employment increased only 1,000. State labor department officials say the monthly jobless rate has declined because fewer Michigan workers are actively looking for jobs. The state unemployment rate for Michigan is currently 13.2 percent.

To help local Detroit residents get connected with jobs, Virgin Mobile is teaming up with JobsDirectUSA to host a “Pink Slip Party” that allows job seekers to mix and mingle with recruiters of companies looking to interview, and hire, in a more informal setting than your traditional board room – think speed dating for the unemployed.

The Detroit Pink Slip Party is the sixth stop on a multi-city jobs tour that is being sponsored by Virgin Mobile, called the “Pink Slip Tour”, which over the last few weeks has helped connect workers in cities such as Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, Atlanta and Minneapolis with representatives of hiring companies.

According to JobsDirectUSA, organizers of the event, the job networking mixer is the most fun and laid back job interview most who attend will ever experience.

To date, pink slip parties as well as various forms of social networking have helped many workers across the U.S. land employment during troubled times.

The Pink Slip Party will take place on Thursday, July 22nd, from 4 to 8 PM at Int Ice at the MGM Grand Detroit. Job Seekers are encouraged to dress to impress, bring copies of their resume and be ready to network. There will also be a pink carpet display on site at which guests will have an opportunity to film their 30 second commercials and have their photo taken.

All hiring companies in the Metro Detroit area are encouraged to attend. The event is open to the general public. There will also be giveaways courtesy of Virgin Mobile.
