The Morning Blend: A Time For Thanks – Part 2

I sat down to write a Thanksgiving themed blog and I after I got about 3 paragraphs into the process, it occurred to me that it sounded very familiar…so I went back and pulled up last year’s Thanksgiving thoughts. The two blogs were so similar, that it seemed pointless to completely rewrite it!

The blog from last year – A Time For Thanks is reprinted below. The thoughts are universal and almost timeless. I will tell you that I have gotten flooded with responses to my blog last week called Ultimate GPS – in which, I clearly state my Christian views and beliefs. With that clarity in mind, I do have a few more thoughts to add to this year’s Thanksgiving blog – “A Time For Thanks – Part 2″.

Are you feeling thankful this year? The world is full of roses and the world is full of thorns. Some think “why would God put thorns on a flower as beautiful as a rose?” If you see it that way, then it’s tough “feel thankful” at this time of year. However, I see the flower in a different way – I believe that God put beautiful rose blossoms onto ugly thorns – how lucky are the thorns!

Several thoughts of gratitude and thanks were discussed today at my church. Phrases like “gratitude is the greatest of all virtues” and “giving thanks enhances the taste buds of life.” Then of course was the reference to Romans 8:28 that is truly profound: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

“According to His purpose…” – let that thought marinate for a moment. God is bigger than any crisis you will ever go through. If you are unemployed, underemployed, hate your job or can see the train on the tracks for job change or loss, God is with you. He is either preparing you for your next great endeavor, or readying your next challenge for you. Either way – and in all ways – He is in control!

G.K. Chesterton said it this way: “You say grace before meals…but I say grace before the concert and the opera, and grace before the play and pantomime, and grace before I open a book, and grace before sketching, painting, swimming, fencing, boxing, walking, playing, dancing, and grace before I dip the pen in the ink. I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.”

What are you thankful for today? Now take these thoughts with you as you read my highly popular blog about Thanksgiving from November 2010. May God bless you and your family during the Thanksgiving holiday and all the days of your life!

Sincerely,

Brad Raney
