Property Tax Accountant

Responsible for supporting the Tax Accounting function by maintaining tax compliance requirements and consulting responsibilities as well as participating in other accounting projects as assigned.

Key Accountabilities: Include the following and other duties may be assigned.
§  Prepare and file federal, state and local income, franchise and gross receipts tax returns.
§  Assist with the gathering of information used in the generation of K-1s for unit holders.
§  Prepare sales and use tax returns and unclaimed property reports.
§  Prepare journal entries for tax accruals and adjustments.
§  Assist with the preparation of state apportionment schedules. Prepare property tax reports for local, county and state taxing authorities.
§  Prepare moving expense adjustment packages for Payroll Department and relocated employees.
§  Prepare 1099 forms for federal and state tax authorities.
§  Research tax and non-tax (i.e. payroll and withholding) issues as requested.
§  Keep current on new and proposed tax laws/regulations and communicate awareness to other members of the tax department.
§  Respond to tax notices from state and federal authorities.
§  Prepare schedules for FERC Form 6.
§  Prepare tax budget for property taxes, sales & use tax, and other miscellaneous taxes.
§  Represent company upon audits by federal, state and local tax authorities.
§  In the event of an acquisition or other company expansion, prepare state tax applications and registrations.
§  On occasion, answer calls from investors, generally during the months of  March and April, regarding their respective interest in Buckeye entities as reported on the annual Form K-1 – Partner’s Share of Income, Deductions, Credits, Etc.
§  Support other Tax projects as needed.
 
Education:
§  Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline required.
§  MBA preferred.
 
Experience:
§  2+ years related experience is required, preferably in partnership and corporate  tax filing.
§  Property tax experience preferred.
§  Significant experience responding to audits and notices required.
§  Significant experience utilizing MS Office to perform accounting related tasks is required.
§  Experience with CCH research software and  RIA tax return software  software is preferred.
